A Wonderful Christmas Gift: A Little Independence
A Wonderful Christmas Gift: A Little Independence
While many are still thinking and dealing with Christmas shopping for Cyber Week, Distinctive Remodeling and The Paragon Companies are heading up a team of suppliers and subs to give the gift of some independence for Kelly Dowless, a former schoolteacher, by remodeling her bath to make it wheelchair accessible. Josh Mauney is coordinating the efforts that started on Nov. 30th to widen doorways and create a “wet room” type of shower so Kelly can access the shower on her own.
Kelly first got diagnosed with transverse myelitis in 2010 and was quickly paralyzed by the disorder. See the full story, here. Josh was made aware of this heartbreaking story in September, and has been putting the pieces together to allow us to help Kelly more comfortable in her own home. Dave Cowick, owner of Remodeling Solutions, has put together the plans for remodeling the bath to make it accessible. We have received commitments for all of the materials to be donated, including Ralph Paul at Best Tile for the ceramic tile, Nicole Gossage from Ferguson’s of Raleigh for plumbing fixtures, Scott Talbert with Talbert Building Supply for building materials, Joe & Jill Murphy with Cary Granite for the countertop, and Kitchen Cabinet Distributors for the vanity cabinets. The plumbing labor is donated by Barbour & Pourron Plumbing. Chris Conrad with CMC Electric is donating the electrical work. Craig Losurdo from Custom Tile Installations is providing the tile labor. This project is scheduled to be complete and in time for Kelly to enjoy her bathroom over the Christmas holiday. In lieu of sending out Christmas cards to customers this year, Distinctive Remodeling will be providing the labor for demo and framing to help get this project completed on time.
