We want to be your remodeler for life. To be that kind of company, we wake up every day recommitted to our mission: Vision. Imagination. Excellence.
It’s precisely that vision, imagination, and excellence that drives our clients to refer us to their friends and family and—when they have new remodeling projects in the works—to hire us again. While Distinctive Remodeling didn’t exist before 2002, let’s go back to the early 80’s to learn how Eddie Casanave got to where he is today.
As the youngest of nine children, working was always part of the family way of living. Everyone had to pull their own weight. In his Junior High summers, Eddie would travel from WV to Newport News, VA to work for his brother in law’s company, Anchor Builders. In 1984, Eddie graduated from high school and enrolled in NC State to become a Civil Engineer in the Construction curriculum. He contracted deck projects to make enough money to pay for school, and in 1987 he got his General Contractors license and started Outdoor Creations, to work full time and go to school full time. He got his engineering degree and EIT certificate in 1989, and incorporated his company as Casanave Construction Co., Inc. in 1990. Eddie started the Remodelers Council in 1993 and was chairman for the first three years. He became President of the local Home Builders Association in 2001 – the first remodeler to do so. In 1996 he started another company, Horizon Cabinetry, Inc., to better serve customers needing custom cabinetry.
2002 – Eddie Casanave and Jon Rufty started Distinctive Remodeling with the merger of two highly- respected companies in the remodeling market: Casanave Construction Company, Inc. and the remodeling division of Rufty Homes, Inc.
2004 – Eddie Casanave bought out his partner of two years and became the sole owner of Distinctive Remodeling. He also started a closet company, Distinctive Space of NC, importing European closet systems.
2005 – Eddie Casanave changed the name of Horizon Cabinetry, Inc. to Cabinets by Horizon, LLC, a custom cabinet shop, to better meet the increasing need for quality custom cabinets, countertops, and millwork.
2008 to 2012 – Despite a nationwide slowdown in the building industry, Distinctive Remodeling was able to survive the slowdown, due to past customers that called to have projects done. Distinctive Remodeling continues to serve the kitchen, bath, and renovation needs of the greater Triangle area.
2015 – Josh Mauney, of Paragon Building Group, joined Distinctive Remodeling as a partner to help grow the business and help take customer service to a higher level.
